Is your drinking water safe?
What are PFAS? (Per-and PolyFluoroalkyl Substances)
The presence of PFAS (Per-and PolyFluoroalkyl Substances) in drinking water can be concerning, they are a man-made chemical which can be persistent in the environment, commonly known as forever chemicals
They have been proven to be carcinogenic to humans by the World Health Organisation.
Recently they have found high levels in the Blue Mountains, at the Cascade Dam water filtration plants at Blackheath and Katoomba.
The Australian Department of Health will continue to monitor the levels on a monthly basis along with other water treatment plants will be tested annually.
The health considerations with prolonged exposure to elevated levels of PFAS can potentially affect human health, leading to issues like liver damage, developmental effects, immune system suppression, and increased risk of certain cancers.
How to remove PFSA from your water
To reduce the high levels of PFSA from your drinking water we would always recommend installing a water filtration system before the water pipe enters your home. By doing this it not only treats the water that you drink but also treats the water that you shower, bath and even brush your teeth.
A whole house system can be installed on the wall of the house where the pipework enters the building. Puretec is one of the main brands in water filtration that Shipways Effective Plumbing utilises in combating this issue.
The filter contains a large carbon filter which will absorb the unwanted chemicals. It is recommended every 6-12 months the cartridge to be replaced as a regular maintenance.
As an additional option on top of the wall mounted filter you can also choose to have a filtration filter tap at your kitchen sink.
This incorporates an additional filter which sits underneath your kitchen sink. The filter is a 1 micron carbon filter which will add as a second layer to further absorb more of the PFSA chemicals.
Feel free to contact Shipways Effective Plumbing to have this installed to protect your family’s health today and in the future.
