Annual testing and inspections will be conducted onsite by a licenced plumber. Whilst on site, they will ensure the system remains compliant and will identify and address any potential issues that may have changed on site since the last test was carried out.
What are the signs of a faulty backflow prevention device?
- If you see any leaks around the valve or below the valve, this may be a sign of a problem with your backflow prevention valve.
- If the water pressure has either increase or decreased, this may be a sign of a problem with your backflow prevention valve.
- If you have noticed a change in the colour, taste or smell of the water, it may be indicating a cross contamination in the water supply.
How does the valve get tested?
- The valve is tested onsite whilst it remains in place. The water supply will need to be shut down to allow the test to be performed.
- It involves the plumber connecting the backflow tester to the test points on the backflow valve. There will be several tests which ensures the check vales inside the valve are working correctly.
What happens if the back flow valve fails the annual testing?
- If the test fails it is imperative the issue is resolved in a timely manner.
- The plumber will either be able to carry out a service on the valve whilst on site, or the plumber may recommend in updating the valve if it is deemed not viable due to the age of the valve.
What happens next when the back flow valve has passed the testing procedure?
The plumber will enter the required information on Sydney Waters Backflow prevention portal with the test results and an additional 12-month schedule booking through our booking system so you don’t have to remember, we will simply contact you when the backflow valve is due for its next annual test.
